EARLY EDUCATION

Early childhood is a critical time for cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. Quality education helps young children build the confidence and skill set for a prosperous future.

SECONDARY EDUCATION

Beginning in 2018, senior secondary school in Ghana (US high school equivalent) became free. While promising, the program leaves behind thousands of aspiring and impoverished students each year.

Secondary school is pivotal in helping students build the skills and confidence to create long-term career opportunities. Without it, attending University or securing an internship would be impossible.

To qualify, students must pass their BECE tests–a hurdle for poor families. Those who qualify and can attend still must pay for supplies, housing, transportation, food and more. Those who don’t qualify could go to vocational school, but at a cost.

Fact-2-Our-Work-8.png

Only 13% of children in rural Ghana attend senior secondary school

“Mako Children's Fund is a very supportive institution and NGO for the less privileged. They provide, support, care and assist especially the young through various interventions especially with regards to their health and safety. They give in their all for the wellbeing of the inmates in terms of their sexual and reproductive health. They have a neat environment and the caretakers are doing wonderfully well.”

SECONDARY & VOCATIONAL SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

Launched in 2017, our Secondary and Vocational School Scholarship provides funds for at-risk children to receive continued education and ongoing mentorship. This allowsstudents to advance their knowledge while giving them a fighting chance at generating income during their adult lives.

Currently, we have successfully supported 19 students at top secondary schools in Ghana, guiding their success and helping them secure employment. Our students have gone on to study subjects such as engineering, graphic design, fashion, medicine, construction and more.

Without this opportunity, kids are often back on the streets and living well below the poverty line.
